International students planning to study in Australia face higher upfront costs following the latest round of visa reforms.
Subclass 500 Fee Increase
As of 1 July 2026, the Student visa (subclass 500) application charge has risen from AUD 2,000 to AUD 2,500. This is the second increase in two years, after the fee rose from AUD 1,600 to AUD 2,000 in mid-2025.
Concessional Rates Still Apply
Eligible passport holders from ASEAN countries pay a reduced fee of AUD 2,050, and lower rates continue to apply for certain Pacific Island and Timor-Leste citizens as well as some ELICOS and non-award applicants.
Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)
In March 2026 the government doubled the Temporary Graduate visa application fee from AUD 2,300 to AUD 4,600. Graduates should plan ahead and lodge well before their student visa expires.
